He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the third round of the 2014 MLB draft. He was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays on July 30, 2021 via trade with the Cleveland Indians.
Prior to being drafted, he attended Fresno State University, where he was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year after his junior year in 2014.
He made his major league debut playing against the San Diego Padres on July 28, 2017 as a member of the Pirates.
He is the great nephew of former major leaguer Al Luplow.
He hit his first career walk-off home run facing the Chicago White Sox on September 23, 2020. He hit the home run off of Gio Gonzalez.
